Why is my iPhone not charging wirelessly?

There are multiple reasons why the iPhone may not be charging wirelessly:

  • Please make your smartphones is Qi wireless charging compatible. Please note that not all smartphones are Qi wireless charging capable. The iPhone 8 was first iPhone to utilize wireless charging. Compatible iPhones are 8, X, 11, 12 and 13. Compatible Samsung phones start with galaxy S6, S7, S8, S9, S10, S20 and S21

  • Make sure the wireless charger is plugged in to a working outlet. NOTE: Connecting the iHome unit to outlet with too many devices can powered off that circuit or using an extension cord where the combination of length and the number of other powered devices don’t allow the iHome model to receive the 110-120V power required for our unit to actually charge a device.

  • Try charging the device without the protective case.

  • Place the device directly in the center of your wireless charging pad facing up and verify the Qi charging status for proper alignment.

  • The latest iPhone 12/13 models have a MagSafe wireless magnetic charger that while compatible with Qi-certified wireless chargers, will not magnetically align for optimal placement. The magnetic alignment experience only applies to iPhone 12/13 and iPhone 12/13 Pro models and certified MagSafe accessories.

  • Make sure your iOS Software is up to date (Apple is constantly improving the iOS experience to address issues that can sometimes impact charging): there is a iOS software issue that can occur that disables wireless charging, but if you reset the phone, it enables wireless charging again.

Here are the steps to reset your wireless charging iPhone 8 / X / 11 / 12 & 13.

  • Press and quickly release the “Volume Up” button.
  • Press and quickly release the “Volume Down” button.
  • Press and hold the “Power” button on right side until the Apple logo appears on the screen, release the button.

You can also try resetting the iHome unit.

  • Disconnect the power adapter cable from the iHome unit.
  • Remove the back-up battery from the iHome unit.
  • Wait 30 seconds
  • Replace the backup battery and reconnect the power adapter.

NOTE: New iOS with “Optimized Battery Charging” the software may automatically limit a phone charging beyond 80%. To access the Optimized Battery Charging go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health > Optimized Battery Charging On/Off.
